OFSTED REPORT 2012

"Improving" Long Stratton High School celebrates good Ofsted achievement

Staff and students at Long Stratton High School, the first Norfolk high school to be inspected under the new Ofsted framework, are celebrating the latest Ofsted inspection that promotes the school from "satisfactory" to "good", notes that “GCSE results, including English and mathematics have improved since the last inspection” and says “outcomes are above the national average”. The school has been judged as “good” across the board and described as an “improving school where standards are rising”.

In their report, inspectors describe the high school as “happy and harmonious", says "students feel safe and valued...behave well and enjoy the extensive array of opportunities available”. “Exclusions are very low and attendance is on an upward trend and is above average”, says the report.

Inspectors also highlight the “good leadership and management of teaching" that have "fostered improvements ensuring good learning in lessons".

Acting headteacher, John Wilson, said: “I am thrilled that inspectors have recognised the vast improvements we have been making over the last few years.

“This report accurately describes our school and should be a source of pride for pupils, parents, staff and governors. I know that if we continue to work together and support each other, our school can continue to improve, as inspectors have pointed out, and a judgement of "outstanding" is well within our reach.”

Alison Thomas, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and the local Member for Long Stratton, said: “This is an excellent report and is testament to the hard work of everybody involved, students, staff, governors and indeed, the whole community.

“It is widely recognised that the new Ofsted framework is raising the bar, so for a school to improve by a grade under such rigourous conditions is quite outstanding. Congratulations to everybody involved.”

Inspectors also highlighted the "good governance" at the school, noting in their report that “the governing body supports the school well and is fully involved".

"This is a good, happy and improving school because of the mutual respect that exists between students, and students and their staff," continues the report.
